Birthday'08

This bouquet of bright flowers really brightens up my day! It's given to me by my mentor yesterday. The flowers are so colorful and fresh, they cheer me up instantly.

She and my manager also got me this Raspberry cheesecake from Secret Recipe. They all know that I love cheesecake. But unknowingly, they have bought me my favorite cheesecake of all times. Really can't thank them enough. It makes me can't bear to leave them (the FI team). I will be moving over to the EQ team.

This year's birthday is a good one. Many unexpected presents which come in the form of a stable job etc. Today marks the end of my contract. I will be a perm staff from next week onwards. I'm thankful to have such a job amidst the crisis. Heard stories about ppl and even my own fren being retrenched. I know I am lucky.

Am on leave today and woke up at 2pm. Turned on my phone and many smses started coming through. Really grateful to have my family and frenz by my side. They are the ppl who will stand by me no matter good or bad times. What more can I ask for?

*Linda is thankful for everything that is given to her*

Retreat @ Sentosa & 1-year Anniversary

It's been one hectic weekend. Department retreat at Amara Sentosa started super early at 8.30am on Sat.

Team-building activites to foster bonding...

After the entire day of activies on Sat, we finally got to check into our room at 5.30pm. No time to rest, we gotta prepare for the dinner next. The theme for the dinner was "Movies and Music".

My team dressed up as the characters in "Journey to the West". I was the Scorpion Spirit. Guess I was the most modernised character. Lol...

I like this pic taken with Huiting. She's new in the dept from SMU, my room mate for the night too. Glad I got her company. We took a walk to Palawan Beach late at night and chatted a fair bit.

These 2 pics above were taken on Sunday after lunch. So looking forward to going home!

My mentor's husband came to fetch her. They were nice to drop me off at Redhill. I went out again shortly after I got home. Just dropped off all my stuffs and took a quick shower. Met DD at Orchard for dinner. It's our 1-year anniversary!

Jap cuisine at the basement of Paragon. I can't really rem the name alr. It was highly recommended by my manager and mentor cos of the unique warm soba. Soba is normally served cold so this was my first time eating warm soba. It's not bad, but kinda pricey - a meal for 2.

I ordered the set with chicken and soft shell crab.

DD had the set with Unagi and Tempura.
We had desserts at Canele after dinner. This is also early celebration for my birthday. It's my first time eating their cakes. Tasted really fantastic. The chocolate is thick and seriously fufilling to the tastebuds.
Last but not least, DD gave me a Coach wristlet! Thank you so much, Dear! You got me such an expensive present even though you haven't start work (and couldn't understand why gals like bags and shoes). Haha... I got DD a blue tie to be used at his interviews. Hope he really likes it. I really love my present. Trust me to take good care of this wristlet :)

I am totally drained. Went DD's place after dinner and I seriously concussed. Thank God I didn't have to work today. Dunno how to wake up man. I woke at 1+pm today. It's gonna rain heavily soon. I shall take a bath and go back to sleep...

Splurge on Gucci

http://www.gv.com.sg/moviedetails/gv_moviedetails_2626.jsp

Caught "Connected" in the theatre yest. Frenz were raving about this show so I thought I had to watch it. It is indeed pretty good for a HK movie. Never thought a plot could be based on a phone call like this. Haha... After that, we had dinner at "Ambush" which is an Italian joint at the basement of Taka. Pasta was average I think...

Didn't want to wait anymore so I just bought this Gucci bag yest. Initially, I thought of getting it at the airport or at some other countries. But ppl have been telling me that the difference is just the tax which is not very significant. Furthermore, the thought of lugging one big package around while travelling puts me off. Anyway, I received $20 Paragon vouchers as I used Citibank card. There was a promotion where you get $20 vouchers for purchase of more than $300. By right, I should have received $40 cos I spent even more than $600 lor. Oh well... I'm satisfied with my purchase nevertheless. Totally adore the baby pink handles. Hehe... This shall be the early birthday present to myself. Hohoho...

Ugly Singaporeans

I notice that I have quite a number of encounters with ugly Singaporeans. They really piss me off. These usually occur on public transport as I always take MRT to commute to and fro work and it's during peak hours where the train is packed like sardine.

1. People don't move towards the centre of the cabin. This is true despite numerous reminders by the speakers. They simply like to stand and crowd near the door. This makes it difficult for others to board and alight the train. Hate such ppl, I will just elbow and jostle my way through. I don't care who got stepped by my heels or knocked in the process.

2. People like to sleep on the train. I can understand you have had a long day at work or had to wake up early in the morning despite pulling a late night. But I think there ought to be sleeping etiquette as well, among all other etiquettes. There was 1 auntie standing next to me on the train 1 fine morning. Next thing I knew, her head was on my shoulder. This while we were all standing and not sitting down, mind you! I was infuriated. I shrug off her head and threw her a disgusted look. Be glad that she's a female. If it was a He, I would have given him one tight slap.

3. I was standing close to the back of the lift with many other ppl. Everyone got in but the door did not close as no one was controlling the buttons. Therefore, everyone just stood there and it lasted for a moment. I looked at everyone. They all had on a straight face and were just staring off to space. I supposed they were just waiting for one another. I pushed the person in front of me so I could reach the buttons, pressed 1st storey and "door closed". Was it that difficult to press a couple of buttons? I don't think it takes much effort seriously. Did they rather wait and wait than to just press and move on? I silently cursed those ppl standing around the control panel. Hope they become big fat pigs, serve you right for being so lazy and wasting time.

Tell me, how do you have a good day ahead when you met so many ugly Singaporeans? They totally spoil my day...

Argh.... I think I have become too obsessed with work. Brought some report home to do the last few days as the dateline was Friday. Did till 1am and I could not sleep well cos my mind was on the report, thinking whether I missed out anything or was there anything else I could improve on. This morning, I literally jumped out of bed at 9+am to look at the clock. I thought I was super late for work. I was going to brush teeth and get ready for work then I realised that it was a Saturday. My god... I need a break badly. Looking forward to the Deepavali week, it's a 3-day week for me!

Meeting up with Uni Frenz

Met up with my Uni frenz yest at Central Mall for dinner. We were supposed to dine at Manhattan. Ended up eating at Billy Bomber instead cos there was simply too many ppl at MFM while it is relatively empty at BB. Even though my fren - Wei Sheng (Rem him, Josh?) was working as a manager at MFM, he could not give us the 10 seats as the total number of us were not there yet and there were several big groups in front of us as well.

It was great catching up with everyone. See that most of us have found jobs which are stable and good. Guess the most successful is Ivan who is a remiser and has bought a car of his own. Boon is the only one still studying as he is going for Honors. I could still remember vividly of the times when we all do projects together and mug for the exams. Miss the good old times man....

Cheerios to Angeline who organised this outing. We ought to meet up like this more often!

Anyway, I have just received my pay for this month. This is the highest that I have received as HR encash me 6.5 days of my contract leaves. *It feels good to have 5-digit in my bank account* I have actually hit the 5-digits few months back but I was repaying my poly loan at 1k per month. Finally, I do not have anymore liabilities. I have even set aside a sum of money in another bank account for my Bangkok-HK trip end of this year. Yeah gonna shop like mad! Lol...

A week w/o my parents

Mom and Dad went Taiwan for holiday with my relatives for a week. And I have survived the week. They are coming back tmr. Surprisingly, I have been doing quite well without them around.

I am able to wake up early every morning by myself. I wash my home clothes every morn and my working wear every evening after I came back. I have been on time for work. Usually I'm a bit late even though my dad drops me off at the MRT. Haha...

Normally, I am very lazy to go buy food. I would rather go hungry than step out of the house. But now I have fed myself well. Too well I think... Lol... Trying to keep a healthy lifestyle. I have ran 2 times this week.

I guess it is a tad tiring to be living on your own and to be independent. Reminds me a bit of the times in Hong Kong. But it really makes you appreciate your loved ones. Back home, I have been so used to having meals served right up to me and I never had to worry about household chores etc. It reminds me of all the things that my parents do for me :)

They are getting old with age alr. I'd encourage them to go on holiday more often too. I can take care of myself, Mummy and Daddy! Hahaha... Thanks for all the things that you do for me :)

Open House @ Chaudhrys'

It's once again the yearly affair at Rizwan's palace. He invites us over every Hari Raya Puasa. Another year has gone past in the blink of an eye. Wow... Really getting old. Haha...
Can never miss out pictures of the food and pastries every year.

And we always like to take group photos, esp in the dungeon at the basement...

Hope you weren't too late for work due to all the photo-taking, Carisse. *Thank you sooo much for the invite and delicacies, Riz!* It's really wonderful :)

Was supposed to work today but I swapped with my mentor so as to attend Riz's celebration. Felt kinda bad though cos I haven't work a single public holi this year. Furthermore, I was the one who is designated to work today and I dun wan to after hearing the Director announced that it's gonna be a normal working day (means till 6pm). By right, we usually only work half day for public holi. Directors kept making us work extra these days due to the financial market turmoil, heard Sat might have to go back again. And I have also told my mentor that I can't work on 27 Oct (Deepavali) - more like I dun feel like working on tat day cos we are having dept retreat at Sentosa over that weekend (25-26 Oct). *sigh* Wonder what my colleagues are gossiping behind my back cos of this. It's back to work again tmr :(
