Nostalgia

Trip cancelled due to the unrest in Thailand. I didn't cancel my leave though. I still want my much-needed rest. Been too buried in work. Colls are nice to search for an alternative for me since I can't go on this trip. Even brought me to Coach sale during lunch today for some retail therapy. But I didn't buy anything cos I would rather get from the US now. They kept chiding me, warning me not to access email from home during my leave. Dun wanna see me replying 2am at night. Haha... It has become a bad habit I think. Can't stop thinking abt work.

Wah, coll from another dept juz called me. Kanchiong spider thought we haven't released all the instructions for the transfer. It's a major transfer this time round and I do hope I have everything right. Ok enough abt work for now...
.
.
.

Feeling nostalgic all of a sudden. I thought of the time you picked me up from work last week. I casually mentioned that I missed the Bedok bah chor mee and you just brought me there w/o a word. When we were seated, you went to order and I was just expecting the noodles and drinks. But plates of food arrived one after another. All my favorites - fried oyster egg, roasted chicken wings, otars. So much that we couldn't finish...
Then at the petrol kiosk, you went in to pay at the counter while I waited in the car. Again, you came back with surprises - Her World and Cleo. Not knowing that I am still subscribed to Cleo, you have bought an extra copy. Still rem U were the one who first started me on Cleo by subscribing it for me and I continued to do so year after year. Thanks for remembering all my favorites :)

After that, it was chilling out at Starbucks of Siglap. Everything seems exactly like the past. But it feels different though. Perhaps cos I'm no longer the little gal schooling but is now an office lady. Perhaps time has also drifted us apart. Perhaps perhaps...

Anyway, U got me wondering. Are you really the only one who could tolerate all my nonsense as what my dad said? Are you the only one who will always give in to me and treats me like a little princess? Are you the only one who will never flare up at me? Are you the only one who can purely take me for who I am w/o expecting any changes from me?

Hmmm... I hope someone can tell me that the ans to all of the above is NO.

I COULD HAVE STOPPED CARING.
BUT WHY DIDN'T I?

Teck Hui's Wedding

Been wanting to blog but I have been rather busy. Knocked off at 10+ yest. This week is crazy :(

It was my cousin's, Teck Hui, wedding over the weekend. A full day event on Sat to be exact. We went over to his house early in the morning. I woke around 6am which is even earlier than my usual work day lor.

Cousins...
After that, we proceeded to the church.
As usual, I was the recept for both church and dinner. The flower girl for the church ceremony is extremely cute! She let anyone carry her and won't cry at all. I came back in the afternoon for a short nap.

At nite, they gotta go through the swords again. This time, they made him sing songs etc before they could pass each stage. Haha... At one point on stage, they also played a game by getting different ppl to kiss my cousin while he was blindfolded. I think it was a give-away cos only the bride kiss him on the lips...

Group photo at our table. Daddy was being cut off from this pic. Lol...
Anyway, Congrats and Happy for the newly-wed!

Another girly session

Met Carisse in town yest for our monthly session. Wei Wei was unable to join us cos she was busy. Make some time out and meet us soon gal! So long nv see alr...

Firstly, we went for manicure. I suggested to do it cos I thought of my cousin's wedding next week. Hehe... We chose express manicure to minimize the time spent there and the person still cut, shaped and buffed our nails. Not bad lah. Must be careful and maintain my nails like this for a week though. Dun wanna destroy them before the wedding...

After manicure, we shopped and had dinner at the Pasta Cafe again. The Christmas lightings are up yesterday! Feels kinds early but it lifts the mood nevertheless.

Carisse and I decided to take a pic with a Christmas tree. We asked an Indian guy to help us take this pic. This guy is so professional. He actually knelt down to help us take this pic, capturing the entire tree. So nice...
Ok I feel like I will max out my credit card this month. Seems like unknowingly, I have been charging many items to my card. Carisse didn't manage to buy anything though. We came across this pretty Dior set which consists of a mascara and eyeshadow at Robinson. Think I was smitten by the black velvet bag and anyway it was selling at just the price of the mascara so I bought it. Shit I got about 10 or more mascaras now! Bought many other small items too. They dun cost alot and I have discounts & vouchers. But somehow, my purchases add up close to 200 again.

Alright, I'd better stop spending till the trip now...

Meeting on Depository Receipts

It's definitely an eye-opener for me today. My first major meeting with external party - other bank which took up my entire morning. It was attended by all the big shots (mostly directors) from different departments. But it started off embarrassingly for me. We were doing the usual handshakes and intro. Custodian passed me her name card and I told her to hold on cos mine was in the pocket. Then, I proceeded to dig my pocket. How unglam! I think I seriously need a card holder.

Anyway, the meeting was really enriching. I have come across ADRs and GDRs back in sch. But lecturers merely went though 1 powerpoint slide (mind you, just 1 slide!) and that was it. End of ADR and GDR. Hence, I never thought that depository receipts are complex. To me, it's basically just a certificate which represents some underlying securities - mostly equities.

Boy, how wrong can I get! There are so many other issues to consider. Like tax, proxy voting, dividends and all other corporate actions. This goes to show that what we studied in sch is significantly insufficient. There's still so much to learn out there...

Also, I have always thought that it was rude to interrupt when someone is presenting. But the directors were all shooting questions while the poor ang moh guy was in between his slides. Luckily, he was able to handle all the questions pretty well. Wah you have to be really well-prepped and knowlegable to be giving a corporate presentation lor. That ang moh is a managing director himself. Oh well...

The questions that were thrown out are good questions too. Show that they are well-thought, concise and cover alot of areas. The ultimate questions that my director ask were "What happens if the bank goes under? Are we protected?". As we are managing the SWFs, this is most critical and of utmost importance amid the current financial turmoil.

Overall, I'm impressed. When can I ever reach that level of presenting a talk so fluently and confidently? When can I be so efficient to think of all aspects within few minutes? When can my brain ever work so fast and effective???

Chanel Inimitable

http://www.gv.com.sg/moviedetails/gv_moviedetails_7759.jsp

Watched "The Coffin" last night. OMG... It's the most awful horror show I have ever caught. It's so stupid, no plot and not scary at all. We didn't wanna watch initially cos heard the reviews weren't tat good. But tot we would just give it a try. It turned out to be a bad choice...

My birthday presents are still coming in. I was juz casually mentioning about Chanel concealer the other day. Didn't expect to receive these Chanel Inimitable Mascara and Chanel Highlighter pen yest. Thanks! Nv own a highlighter pen b4 so I didn't noe how to use. I kept turning and turning until it become a mess. Oops... Haha... Ok better stop trying and keep it until I really need to use it. Think it's similar to concealer but more for covering up of zits etc.

I'm having this big ulcer at the back of my mouth. It's giving me nightmare (but cannot be compared to the previous time with multiple ulcers. Lol...). I'm having problems eating again. Juz had instant noodles. I'd rather have fever than ulcer lor. At least still can take MC. Wah lao...

*Sorry if I was a bit too harsh. I hate ppl controlling me when they are in the least positon to do so. Esp now that I have finally regained by freedom, I can go out with whomever I like. U dun need to ask the details each time I go out with him or whoever for that matter. Appreciated, thanks.*

Buried in Work

Thank you so much, Jac! I really like this Coach keychain. The slipper looks so classy and cute. Dian also gave me a ZA blusher when I met her for lunch. Gal frenz are the best - they are the ones who understand you most. Speaking of lunch, I met one of my poly fren this week. She has found a new job at Deutsche Bank. Seems like she has been doing quite well despite all the financial turmoil going on.

This is my first week of work after conversion and I have been super busy. Not exactly cos of the conversion I think but the trades are simply endless. When I'm about to be done with one task, another one just appear on my tray. -_-" Then as London and New York market open in the late afternoon/evening, the more U can't leave as C/P starts calling and emailing you. There was also one urgent payment where I gotta barge into the Asst Director's room for approval cos both my managers are not around. It was quite crazy. My manager was also emailing me from her Blackberry even though she is in Japan. Omg...

It has been a long time since I have been able to leave promptly at 6pm. I'm glad that I'm able to claim for cab fare now cos I did for the first time this week. But in a way, it's not such a good thing too cos there's no excuse for you not to stay back late. With status, there comes more responsibilities. It's really physically and mentally draining. Got home late everyday and dinner at 9+ close to 10. I had about 6 or less hours of sleep each day. Every morning, I would be struggling to wake up and always late for work. It's a vicious cycle.

Yest, I was determined not to work till extremely late cos it's a Fri afterall. I didn't even have time to go out and buy lunch back. Asked my mentor to help me buy. She was supposed to be on leave. Luckily, she came back cos we were short-handed. Otherwise, I might have collapsed w/o her help and yet still have to cover her Asia. It already feels as though I am juggling 3 person's job. I have to handle my current US bond mkt, the stupid fails/late cases and EQ mkt. On top of it, I gotta train my coll to handover my US bonds. Next week, I gotta attend a meeting for EQ on GDR and ADR. *Yawn* Sounds familiar? It feels like I'm back in sch with several different modules. The difference here is I can never skip one lesson... Got to perservere!

Movie and My very 1st Concert

Aren't some ppl so evil that they are out to spoil your weekend? I hate it when my plans get interrupted. This time I'm determined not to be affected. Thou shall push on and enjoy as per normal. Boy, I'm becoming a great pretender...

http://www.gv.com.sg/moviedetails/gv_moviedetails_7764.jsp

Caught Saw V - my fav sequel. I must say the plot this time is quite good, unlike Saw 3 & 4. Even though the jigsaw man has died, the story is still able to continue. And after seeing the ending of Saw5, you know that Saw 6 is definitely coming up soon. I can't wait for it to screen next year.

Went to my first concert ever last night - Wang Lee Hom. It's one of my birthday presents. I was so excited. It was quite good. He belted out many nice songs and introduced a few new songs in his upcoming new album. I guess it really feels different to listen and watch performances Live.
Co. called me on Fri to ask me go for some talk and tour which are meant for newcomers. I'm giving it a miss cos it's super early at 8.30am and I got cutoff time at 10am. Furthermore, I dun really feel that 'new' since I have been working for a number of months alr. They say will make another appt with me to take photo and change my access pass. Means next few days must dress up to be more presentable. Haha...

Been listening to Jay's new album "Capricon". I think the songs are not as good as those in the previous album. But they grew on you after you kept listening to them. I have been sleeping for long hours the past few days. Woke at 2pm on Fri, 4pm on Sat and 6pm on Sun. Dunno how I'm going to switch back to working mode tmr. *sigh*
